After a long two year sabbatical from the show ring Camille and myself headed off to contest the Connemara Cup and boy did Camille deliver. The over 16 class was a pretty big class so I was delighted to see we were in the spacious indoor in Cavan Equestrian Centre. All 3 classes under 14, under 16 and over 16 were well filled a testament to the popularity of the Connemara. The classes were judged by Russell Marks (UK)

Following the initial go round Camille was pulled in first which I was delighted with her as she had given me a really light, fluent ,flowing ride. Russell had a very specific show that he requested from us which included a straight line canter transition on the first line and then canter- trot- walk- trot to canter line across the diagonal. He was certainly requiring that the ponies were well schooled and balanced in their way of going.
After a nervous wait I was delighted when she was pulled top of the class and more especially when the judge took the time to remark to me on the harmony of us as a combination!!
During the afternoon Aaron took Camille into the working hunter over a tough track. While they didn’t get a rosette they certainly acquitted themselves admirably and look to have a strong bond forming

We had a long wait until the evening performance so a change of outfit into our navy jacket, waistcoat and cream stock and in we went. The atmosphere was electric everyone was still buzzing from the amazing Fancy Dress that had gone before us. We needed to be on the top of our game as the other ponies that had come through were of wonderful quality. I have to admit after the go round I felt very nervous so it was very special to have Camille pulled Champion.

On Saturday we took Heather (Flower of Roo) to compete in the mixed young stock class. From start to finish Heather was impeccable. She took everything in her stride and performed with manners throughout for Aaron, who did a stellar job showing her and giving her great confidence. With the other ponies having a year on her we were delighted with her picking up a 2nd place rosette. The future looks very bright for the youngest of my girls

As always my Shapley’s equitone whitening had us looking shiny bright and white and with the Magic Sheen on hand for the final touches we were certainly show ready. Many thanks as always to Packhorse for their support.
